Who is Dattatreya Hosabale, RSS leader re-elected as ‘Sarkaryawah’?

Dattatreya Hosabale was re-elected as the 'Sarkaryawah' (general secretary) of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for another three-year term during the organization's annual 'Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha' held in Nagpur. The RSS, founded in 1925 by Keshav Hedgewar in Nagpur, aims to organize Hindu society. The RSS chief, or Sarsanghchalak, is revered as the guiding figure, with Mohan Bhagwat currently holding the position. The Sarkaryawah, essentially the second-in-command, oversees the organization's executive functions.

Dattatreya Hosabale, born in Hosabale village, Karnataka, joined the RSS in 1968 from a family deeply rooted in its ideology. During the national Emergency, he was involved with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and was jailed for over 14 months. Over the years, Hosabale held various leadership positions within the ABVP and later within the RSS. He has a Master's degree in English from Bangalore University and has been instrumental in intellectual training within the RSS.
