Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat arrived in Odisha on Thursday for a five-day visit. During his stay, he will participate in a memorial event and hold discussions with RSS office bearers about the organization's activities in the state.
RSS operations in Odisha have gained momentum since the BJP government came to power seven months ago. The Utkal Bippana Sahayata Samiti, an RSS affiliate, has been particularly active in the region. Upon his arrival at Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhagwat was welcomed by RSS leaders before heading straight to the office of the samiti.
The RSS chief is set to attend a memorial gathering for Shivram Mohapatra, the former "Prant Sangh Chalak" (State Coordinator of RSS), in Bhubaneswar. He will also assess the recent growth of RSS activities in the state. Political analysts suggest that RSS volunteers played a crucial role in securing the BJP's victory in Odisha.
Bhagwat is scheduled to depart from Odisha on February 3.
